As there are few named streets in Ivry it took a few wrong turns before we found the cottage but it wasn't really difficult. First impressions from the outside were exactly as in the photographs which was a very good start. The inside was also exactly as pictured which was better still.

As there are few named streets in Ivry it took a few wrong turns before we found the cottage but it wasn't really difficult. First impressions from the outside were exactly as in the photographs which was a very good start. The inside was also exactly as pictured which was better still. The kitchen is easily the best equipped of any holiday rental we've had anywhere, clearly a house that is used by the owners and we lacked for nothing. More than enough plates, bowls, cutlery, pans and basics such as salt, pepper, oil, cleaning materials etc.

The bathroom was a decent size with plenty of good quality towels and hot water. The dishwasher and washing machine worked perfectly and were supplied with all necessary liquids and solids for use.

Every room and surface was clean and the whole cottage is well sized for 2 adults and 3 children.

WiFi is supplied and the speed is good although it barely works outside the living room due to the thick walls. French TV is available and kids are happy to watch cartoons in any language. There are also some DVD's and a huge selection of books plus family games monopoly-style.

The barbecue was used on 4 days and everything was in good order with all materials to start and maintain it being supplied, we of course replenished the stocks.

Ivry-en-Montagne itself holds few attractions except peace and quiet (there is a chateau a few hundred metres down the road) but short drives through some beautiful countryside get you to La Rochepot (bigger and more castle-like chateau), Beaune (Hospices de dieu), Autun (Cathedral, Ancient gates) and slightly further afield Dijon. I recommend this cottage, the weather when we stayed was 25-30C most days and although it's cooler inside due to the walls, it's still fairly warm at night but there's no noise when sleeping with the windows open.

We had a lovely stay in this well-appointed gîte, set within old farm buildings made of beautiful golden Burgundian stone.

We had a lovely stay in this well-appointed gîte, set within old farm buildings made of beautiful golden Burgundian stone. Particularly nice is the access to the area in front of the house, where our daughters enjoyed playing, the table and chairs where we could enjoy outdoor meals, and the meadow down below the terrace, where one could watch butterflies.

Ivry is a very small, quiet place, with very little going on. But it is a good position for expeditions to Beaune, and, of course, it is surrounded by excellent wine country. (The very best cave we found was a bit further south, at Cheilly-lès-Maranges - well worth a detour.) Chateauneuf, one of Les plus beaux villages de France, is nearby, and, on our way there, we stumbled across a gem of a Templar church in Echarnant.

The week flew by and we were sad to leave.

We loved our week at Les Vignes. The house was everything one could wish for. In particular, the kitchen was really well equipped and the whole house had everything that we could need - including English plug converters! The beds were comfy, the water was hot and plentiful and the lounge was very relaxing. The wifi worked well too.

We had a very hot week and the house was cool and comfortable when the temperatures outside were in the high 30s.

We made plenty of use of the terrace. My husband spent ages watching a pair of booted eagles and a pair of kestrels as well as numerous smaller birds. He even saw an owl once, though we heard it frequently! We also liked the way that we could always find a place to relax in sun or shade, depending on how we felt.

We had a very relaxed week but enjoyed looking round the area. We loved Beaune and the centre of Nolay and also had a great trip to Autun. We would recommend Les Vignes to anyone and I wish I was still there!

We have just returned from staying in your gite Les Vignes Ivy-en-Montaigne. We would like to say thank you for letting us stay in your gite, it is so beautiful and very comfortable, a perfect place for a holiday. The weather was perfect especially as we travelled on motorcycles and to arrive at such a lovely place was great. The countryside around Burgundy is beautiful such a calm relaxing place. We couldn't fault anything, enjoyed waking up to the birds, cockerel and chickens singing and sitting in the courtyard having breakfast was perfect. Thank you so much for letting us stay, would love to return and experience it again. A perfect holiday. Thank you.

Sometimes it happens that a holiday ‘find’ is so good that one has a natural reluctance to be too gushing in praise, in case the next time one wishes to visit it is totally booked up for months ahead! Les Vignes definitely falls into this category.

    Dear Pam

Sometimes it happens that a holiday ‘find’ is so good that one has a natural reluctance to be too gushing in praise, in case the next time one wishes to visit it is totally booked up for months ahead! Les Vignes definitely falls into this category. As seasoned travellers across the globe we can honestly say that our short stay in your 'home from home' was unsurpassed for comfort - even down to the music. Not one but two big, comfortable sofas completed our bliss!

What we particularly liked was that  Ivry-en-Montagne, is a 'proper' working French village, just off the main tourist trail, yet within minutes drive of the vineyards, picture-postcard villages and the other attractions of mainstream Burgundy. This is rural France at its absolute best.

We thoroughly enjoyed what our kids refer to as 'chilling out' and practicing our culinary skills with the vast array of wonderful ingredients in the local markets and butcher's shops - and your kitchen has everything one could possibly need to make a perfect meal. An added bonus was that we managed to find some perfectly decent local plonk, without having to pay outrageous Grand-Cru prices - and to round off the overall experience we had a week of glorious sunshine. What could be better!

    Thank you once again.

Thanks for sharing your lovely home in Ivry with us. It could not have been nicer.

Thanks for sharing your lovely home in Ivry with us. It could not have been nicer.  The kitchen was perfectly equipped, and the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable.  Since the weather was fairly chilly, we especially enjoyed sitting by the  wood-burning stove and the beautiful fireplace and reading the excellent guidebooks and information on the area that you kindly provided.  Ivry is such a practical base from which to explore the lovely surrounding area - the charming town of Beaune, the vineyards, and nearby chateaux - or just to take walks in the countryside on the grounds of Chateau de Coraboeuf or to the Roman column in Cussy la Colonne. Our eight-year old daughter loved it as well. We hope to return soon again and would recommend Les Vignes to anyone wanting to discover this beautiful and interesting part of Burgundy.

    All the best,

    Susi

We were pleased with how close by car the property was to Beaune and the wine villages,

    Pam,

Thanks - we had a lovely time and felt the accommodation was perfect, with a homely feel.

I particularly liked the fact that there were some basic provisions (tea, salt/pepper, olive oil etc) available, as in so many S/C properties you have to bring everything with you. I also enjoyed the
selection of guide books, maps and leaflets on the area, and the bikes. I bet there aren't many bikes from Carnoustie lying around in France! (I grew up near Perth)

We were pleased with how close by car the property was to Beaune and the wine villages, although it was a little too far for a leisurely cycle.

All in all a very enjoyable week.

I can safely say that of all the holiday homes we have ever stayed in Les Vignes was the best equipped and the most like home.

    Dear Pam

    Thanks for getting in touch.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Ivry-en-Montagne and I can safely say that of all the holiday homes we have ever stayed in Les Vignes was the best equipped and the most like home. In fact, I like your white bedroom furniture so much, I'd love to know where you got it, as we will be doing up my daughter's bedroom soon and it is just what I had in mind.

The kitchen equipment was a pleasant surprise, it's very unusual to find such a well stocked kitchen in a rental home. We did not do a lot of cooking but if we had wanted to do so, there was plenty of scope for it.

We liked the high standards you set e.g. towels all matching and of very good quality. I feel that there is more incentive to look after the property if it is well maintained and I hope you find that with all your guests.

The house was immaculately clean and in pristine order.

We found the bikes very good and used them every day. With our own two bikes as well, it meant we could go out as a family, though almost every road led downhill. As one of the locals said (in French) as we puffed up another hill, "It's called Ivry en Montagne for a reason".

We enjoyed the peace and tranquillity very much and I have recommended Les Vignes to a friend. The beds were extremely comfortable, the bedrooms light and airy and delightful.
